AIESEP World Conference 2018

The opening two decades of the twenty-first century have often shown encouraging signs of an increased prominence for physical education. Therefore, how physical education in the decades ahead, can show the capacity for innovation and for creating and sustaining new connections is as vital as ever.

As such, the heightened profile of physical education, while welcome, raises demanding issues about learners’ experiences in physical education and how these can plausibly connect with wider societal objectives for increasing physical activity, enhancing health and wellbeing and bolstering sporting achievement.

The conference explores how physical education can thrive under these circumstances and avoid contexts where international policy interactions result in a stifling sameness and standard setting rather than rewarding more organic vibrancy and imagination in learning and teaching.

On this basis, the Association Internationale des Écoles Supérieures d’Éducation Physique (AIESEP) World Conference in Edinburgh 2018 invites scholars to reflect on the part physical education can play in reshaping education futures. This focus exists at multiple levels, from reviewing policy engagement at the macro level through to considering how new and exciting learning opportunities can take shape in schools.
