What is Repeated Measures Data?
- Measurements taken repeatedly on the same ‘units’
--- Animals
--- Patients
--- Samples across time or dilutions
- Eg Repeated measurements on crabs of consumption of different diets
- Multiple measures on the same crab are not independent
Repeated measures - example
- Same mice observed at each time point
Not Repeated Measures Data
- Different individuals used at each time point
--- Eg WT and KO mice given an intervention and different mice culled and assessed at 1, 2, 4 and 8 days.
- Different interventions at each time point on same individuals
--- WT and KO mice given intervention A for one week, then same mice given intervention B for another week.
Crossover design - not repeated measures
- Experiment to see whether mice preferred tastes of: Sucrose, Ethanol, Saccharin, Salt or Water
- 4 cages of mice
- Each cage (containing same mice) studied with each fluid
- Fluids allocated in random order
