In September 2016, the Alwaleed Centre was delighted to welcome renowned scholar and Director of the Alwaleed Centre for Muslim-Christian Understanding at Georgetown University, Dr Jonathan A. C. Brown to Edinburgh.
Dr Brown is author of the acclaimed monographs Hadith: Muhammad's Legacy in the Medieval and Modern World (2009) and Misquoting Muhammad: The Challenge and Choices of Interpreting the Prophet's Legacy (2014). His 2011 publication Muhammad: A Very Short Introduction has provided audiences throughout the English-speaking world with a highly accessible and engaging introduction to the life and legacy of the Prophet Muhammad.
In this special public lecture, Dr Brown turns his attention to the often-discussed but very often misunderstood subject of Islamic Law (Shari'a). Dr Brown discusses the extent to which the Shari'a is able to accommodate the beliefs and practices of others through the use of some unexpected case studies.
