As part of the Equate Scotland and Careerwise scheme to give Women in STEM students a paid placement in industry, Emma Carroll was employed on a paid internship in Information Services to work with Wikimedian in Residence, Ewan McAndrew, for three months (June to September 2019). Emma was a georgraphy undergraduate student with a background in GIS and was asked to do the detective work and data reconcilitation required in order to geolocate the places mentioned in the Survey of Scottish Witchcraft Database (1563 to 1736) so that each accused witch in Scotland could be plotted on an interactive map as linked open data through Wikipedia's sister project, Wikidata.
On 11 September 2019 she sat down for an interview about the culmination of the internship to discuss her experiences, the digital skills she learned working on the project and feeding back working at Information Services in general.
