Incorporating puzzle feeders into a daily feeding routine can be a quick and easy method of behavioural enrichment for cats. Our model cat, Athena, is a 2-year old indoor cat demonstrating puzzle feeder usage. There are three feeders here, two 'ball-types' and one that relies on paw manipulation to get the food, in day-to-day practice only one feeder is presented at a time. Athena manipulates the feeder with her paw to reach the treat. Mixing high reward treats with low-reward kibble can add another level of cognitive challenge and make the puzzle feeder more enriching. In this video Athena selects the high-reward treat to extract from the feeder.
