A short talk on Coronavirus infections and the kidney. A couple of amendments from emerging information within 48h of publication:
Transplant
patients are probably at greater risk than suggested here - but they've
been good at protecting themselves, so we haven't seen so many
infections.
The risk for Haemodialysis patients seems high. 20%
mortality from UK data. However many in this group have substantial
comorbities, and it includes a significant proportion of elderly and frail. Risk will not be evenly
distributed across this group.
Worth emphasising also that severe (dialysis-requiring) AKI is almost entirely restricted to the most severely ill patients on intensive care units.
