Rayo Verweij, Lead Developer, Voxsio
Rayo (he/they) is a recent graduate from the School of Informatics MSc in Cognitive Science. He is currently the Lead Developer of Voxsio, an Edinburgh-based start-up that's using conversational technology to help people create healthy habits and make mental health information accessible.
Jose Hernandez, Data Coach (ex IBM, Data Scientist)
Jose Hernandez is a data scientist and AI specialist. He graduated with a BSc in Industrial Engineering from the University of Lima and is now in his second semester of the MSc in Cognitive Science programme at the University of Edinburgh. In the past four years he has shifted his career towards artificial intelligence, being intrigued about the interaction between cognitive sciences and computational intelligence. After completing the MicroMasters in Statistics and Data Science program from MITx, and publishing a research paper on AI and COVID-19 detection, Jose now aims to expand his studies in artificial intelligence and computational neuroscience and pursue a career in research.
Alex Heavens, Team Lead, Five Ai
They originally studied their BSc in Computer Science at St Andrews, graduating 2012. Working in finance software for a number of Swiss banks, they completed an MSc in High Performance Computing at the University of Edinburgh, graduating 2017. After they joined Five AI's to work as a software engineer driving their self-driving car. Since then they have moved to software team leadership, leading 2 such teams.
Katharina Bitzan, Software Engineer, Tesco Bank
Katharina graduated with a BA Hons in Geography from the University of Cambridge in 2013. She continued her education researching the agricultural sector with a focus on small-scale businesses in East Africa. In February 2019 she shifted her career to tech and joined the four month Software Development Course at Codeclan, Edinburgh. After completion, she joined Tesco Bank as an Associate Software Engineer in the API & Services Team where she currently enjoys building and maintaining code on a variety of projects.
