The after-lunch speaker at the General Council Half-Yearly Meeting on Saturday 17th February was The Rt. Hon. Douglas Alexander, a General Council Court Assessor. His talk was entitled “To see ourselves as others see us: perspectives from abroad”.
Over the last couple of years, Douglas Alexander’s work had taken him from the mountains of the Himalayas to the bomb damaged streets of Kyiv, from the White House to Silicon Valley, and to a Taiwan that’s fearful about its future. The Rt. Hon. Douglas Alexander drew upon these recent international experiences to suggest relevant lessons for our University and our nation as the world looks to meet the challenge of dangerous climate change, extreme global poverty, and growing tensions between major geopolitical powers.
