Graeme Ackland - Metallic Hydrogen Science Facts and Science Fictions
From Keith Brunton on November 1st, 2017
Hydrogen is the most abundant element in the universe. In starts and in plants, most of it is condensed and metallic. Early this year came the tenth announcement of the first synthesis of metallic hydrogen on Earth, and its potential as superconducting rocket fuel.
In this talk Prof. Ackland will discuss the nature of compressed hydrogen, its role in generating the magnetic field of giant planets, use in fuel cells ad fission reactors, rocketry and power distribution. And along the way, we’ll expose some fascinating insights into how competitive science actually works nowadays.
