Here, Prof Michael Rovatsos explains the most basic approach to statistical fairness, called “fairness through unawareness”, that is, simply ignoring the protected attribute when we are training the algorithm (maybe not even collecting it when the data is gathered) and illustrates this by further analysis of the previous example.
