Approximately 50 million people worldwide are living with dementia and the annual global cost of dementia is over £600 billion. The most important risk factor for dementia is ageing, so these staggering numbers are set to grow in the coming years unless we find ways to prevent or treat the diseases that cause dementia symptoms.
