The
Parents and Supporters Online Session took place on Wednesday 19th August,
18:00 (BST)
The panel included:
- Professor Peter Mathieson, Principal and Vice-Chancellor of
the University
- Professor Colm Harmon, Vice-Principal Students
- Ellen MacRae, Students' Association President
- Katie Macdonald, Sports Union President
- Gavin Douglas, Deputy Secretary - Student Experience
Attendees were asked to pre-submit
questions and parents and supporters were given the opportunity to ask more
questions during the live session. The topics covered included:
- How the University of Edinburgh is preparing to welcome and welcome
back students for this academic year.
- Accommodation (allocations, support for self-isolation, social
activities, safety and arrival times)
- Welcome Week (using the UoE Events app, the activities and
resources available for successful transitions - both socially and
academically)
- Campus Safety (Scottish government guidance, expectations of
students, face coverings, hand sanitiser facilities and physically
distancing)
- What to do if a student develops Covid-19
- Support Services (Personal Tutors, support in schools. EdHelp,
digital resources, wellbeing and health services)
- Immigration and Visas (updates on the current CAS issuance
situation)
- Preparing for the future (career prospects, online resources,
development opportunities)
- How the University will be delivering hybrid teaching in 2020
- Edinburgh University Students' Association (overview of how
the Students' Association supports all students, gives students a voice
and helps students to make friends)
- Edinburgh University Sports Union (overview of how students can
keep active and get involved in sports during University)
