Scientific Analysis of Heritage Collections Using XRF
Spectrometry – Employ.ed Internship 2019.
Egyptian
ushabtis, found under Medals 121, were analysed using X-Ray Fluorescence (XRF)
analysis to determine the elemental composition of each ushabti, in order to
date them as accurately as possible, and determine whether they are the oldest artifacts in the University’s collection. The visual appearance of the ushabtis
was compared to those found in a chronological visual database. The
combined information obtained was then used to date each ushabti to a New
Kingdom dynasty.
