Andy has been a Wikipedia editor since 2003 and has worked as a Wikipedian in residence at several institutions, including the Royal Society for Chemistry, ORCID and TED.

Wikimania is the annual conference celebrating Wikipedia and its sister free knowledge projects with conferences, discussions, meetups, training and a hackathon. Hundreds of volunteer editors come together to learn about and discuss projects, approaches and issues.

In 2016, Wikimania was held in Esino Lario, Province of Lecco, Lombardy Region, Italy, on June 22–23 (pre-conference), 24–26 (main conference) and 27–28 (post-conference), 2016.
