by Andrea Zanni and Simone Cortesi
In this session, Andrea Zanni and Simone Cortesi give a basic introduction to Wikisource and OpenStreetMap, sister projects of Wikipedia. Wikisource
is a digital library and OpenStreetMap a map
of the world. All the projects are free and collaborative, supported by
several communities around the world. Together with Wikipedia, they all
support the mission of "giving every person in the world access to the
sum of human knowledge": thing about knowing a city from a quote from a
book, an illustration of its neighbourhoods, a detailed map of its
roads. Information can be anything, and the world it's too complex to
fit in just an encyclopaedia.
Wikimania is the annual conference
celebrating Wikipedia and its sister free knowledge projects with
conferences, discussions, meetups, training and a hackathon. Hundreds of
volunteer editors come together to learn about and discuss projects,
approaches and issues.
In 2016, Wikimania was held in Esino Lario, Province of Lecco, Lombardy Region, Italy, on June 22–23 (pre-conference), 24–26 (main conference) and 27–28 (post-conference), 2016.
