In Autumn 2016, twenty-eight Translation MSc students at the University of Edinburgh selected a 4000 word Wikipedia article in one language and translated it into a different language Wikipedia as part of their Independent Study module. In Semester Two, the students then completed a 2nd translation in the opposite language direction so that the knowledge exchange was truly two-way.
This video demonstrates how students will always have a permanent link to their version of the published translated article page. No matter how many subsequent edits take place, the students can always link to their version, download it as a pdf and print it out. So the published article can be included on their CV as being their work. They can also use the permanent link to assess the article on Wikipedia's article quality scale and add a template to the article's Talk page to mark that the translation was carried out by them.
