University of Edinburgh Public Art Officer, Liv Laumenech, and artist,
William Darrell discuss the context and creation of the revered bronze
rhino head sculpture outside the Informatics building on campus,
Untitled (Rhino Head), 2011.
The rhino head sculpture pays tribute to a site of great municipal and
cultural identity, Jim Haynes' 1960s Paperback Bookshop, which once
stood in the place of the installation and the Informatics Building. The
bookshop was iconized by a large taxidermy rhino head which was hung on
the exterior of the shop, an ode to many literary references.
