Listen to a panel of speakers from third sector organisations share their experiences of getting into, and moving forwards, in a variety of third sector careers. You’ll gain insight into what it means to work in this sector, how you can build-up useful skills and experience, and the sort of opportunities available.

Speakers:

Colette Glynn, Digital and Campaigns Manager, Erskine
Colette graduated with a BA (Hons) in International Business and Modern Languages (Marketing and Spanish) from the University of Strathclyde in 2012. After gaining experience at a marketing agency she secured a graduate position. She has since gone on to work in roles across the private, public and third sector. Colette is currently Digital and Campaigns Manager at Erskine, Scotland’s largest Veterans charity.

Iona Wilkie, Graduate Trainee, Charityworks
Iona graduated with an MA (Hons) in History and Politics from University of Edinburgh in 2019. Since graduating, Iona has gone on to work in a range of roles within the Third Sector, centring upon homelessness and housing. During the first COVID-19 lockdown, Iona worked as a Community Support Worker for homelessness charity Simon Community Scotland, providing advocacy and support for individuals experiencing acute homelessness. Since then,she has recently completed her placement with 'Charityworks', a Graduate Scheme which aims to equip new graduates will the skills and experience to build a successful career within the Third Sector. In her placement role, Iona has been working as an Engagement Officer with Innisfree Housing Association; a social housing provider which specialises in housing migrant communities within North West London. 

Douglas Samson, Head of Marketing and Engagement, Glasgow Children's Hospital Charity
Douglas graduated with a BA (Hons) Marketing in 2006. He gained experience of the third sector through volunteering with the National Trust for Scotland before moving onto develop his marketing career in the private sector, with a technology marketing services company. After working his way up to General Manager and Account Director, Douglas moved back to the third sector in 2014, taking up a role with Glasgow Children’s Hospital Charity where he is now Head of Marketing and Engagement.
