China’s
first low-carbon college, in partnership with Edinburgh, has launched in
Shanghai.
The centre will encourage innovations for use both in China and around
the world and draws on the research expertise and innovation of Edinburgh’s
School of Geosciences and the Edinburgh Centre for Carbon Innovation (ECCI).
Edinburgh
staff, working with colleagues from Shanghai Jiao Tong University, will help deliver teaching on carbon finance and
management, carbon capture and storage, and environmental sustainability, while
innovative research projects will tackle poor air quality, improve energy
efficiency, and enhance sustainable construction.
China, which is the World’s
biggest generator of CO2, is investing heavily in new methods of tackling
pollution.
