Video about the MESH geocoding tool. The Mapping Edinburgh's Social History (MESH) project team has developed a tool that converts address-based information into a map superimposed either on a contemporary map (OpenStreetMap) of Edinburgh, or on to one of many historical maps provided by the National Library of Scotland. So space, and spatial distributions, of memberships, customers, family members, pubs, butchers, pharmacies - indeed anything that has an address - can be plotted. The geocoder will be of interest to local historians, businesses, and organisations. The geocoder has enormous capacity to enrich historical analysis and interpretation.
