A team of palaeontologists led by Dr Steve Brusatte of the
School of GeoSciences, University of Edinburgh, has described a new
species of dinosaur that is one of the closest cousins of T. rex.
Named Timurlengia, this new horse-sized predator lived 90 million
years ago in Uzbekistan. It tells scientists that tyrannosaurs evolved
sophisticated brains and senses at small size and then later became
giant apex predators like T. rex.
