Dr Clare Llewellyn, #Brexit: Analysing the Social Media Conversation on the UK-EU Referendum
In
this talk I will focus on an analysis of the Twitter conversation on
the UK-EU referendum (Brexit). Initially I will explore what makes a
Tweet more likely to be retweeted by analysing the reaction of the
public to tweets from the official UK-EU Referendum campaign groups
(Vote Leave and Stronger In) on the NHS, trade, the European Court of
Justice and migration. Secondly, I will present an analysis of Russian
Troll Involvement in this debate. Twitter released a list of 2,752
accounts believed connected to state-sponsored Russian operative
manipulation of the 2016 American Election. I investigated the activity
and behaviour of these accounts in the UK-EU referendum discussion.
